HUMBOLDT PARK — A vacant Humboldt Park building could be turned into a cannabis dispensary under a new retail development proposal.
The dispensary proposal is for 2735 W. North Ave., a corner storefront that’s been vacant and abandoned for over a decade. It would be Humboldt Park’s first dispensary; neighboring Logan Square has three dispensaries and Bucktown has four.
Ald. Jessie Fuentes (26th) will host a community meeting 6-7 p.m. Tuesday on the ground floor of 1622 N. California Ave., the former North Hotel being renovated into a youth shelter, to discuss the proposal and answer neighbors’ questions. Neighbors can submit questions or comments in advance via this online form.
Fuentes will host a separate community meeting 7-8 p.m. Tuesday in the same location about a proposal to turn a vacant church at 1459 N. Talman Ave. into apartments. The church building is a few blocks away from the proposed dispensary.
The church proposal would bring nine apartments to the building that’s currently zoned for two residential units, according to Fuentes’ office.
Both projects need zoning changes to move forward.
