Cannabis job fair in Rutland aims to connect employers and job seekers across Vermont industry | GreenMountain Vermont Cannabis News

RUTLAND, Vt. — Vermont’s cannabis sector will host a statewide job fair in Rutland on Saturday, June 7, aiming to connect licensed operators and ancillary businesses with job seekers exploring roles in the growing regulated industry.

The Vermont Cannabis Job Fair, organized by the Vermont Growers Association (VGA), will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Vermont Farmers Food Center, 251 West St. The event is free, open to the public, and limited to adults 21 and older.

According to organizers, the job fair is designed to support both short-term and long-term hiring needs, including seasonal farm work and year-round positions such as budtenders, lab technicians and cultivators.

“We are encouraging more short-term and long-term employment opportunities and see businesses with varying needs signing up to participate,” said Geoffrey Pizzutillo, CoFounder and Executive Director of the Vermont Growers Association.

Businesses of all license types are expected to attend, including cultivators, manufacturers, retailers and testing labs. Ancillary businesses—such as packaging suppliers, security firms and agricultural support companies—are also invited to participate.

While the Vermont Department of Labor and the Cannabis Control Board do not currently track job creation within the cannabis sector, according to the VGA, “economist Beau Whitney has estimated that Vermont’s legal cannabis industry has added approximately 1,600 jobs”.

Hiring challenges persist, particularly around seasonality, mirroring broader trends in Vermont’s agricultural economy. “There is an ebb and flow to seasonal jobs, as we see in the broader agriculture sector,” Pizzutillo said.

To help address workforce development, the VGA is collaborating with Vermont State University to support the event and engage with potential pipelines for talent. Organizers are encouraging students, recent graduates, and those seeking career changes to attend the fair, bring resumes, and network directly with licensed businesses.

Job seekers do not need prior experience in the cannabis industry. “Get on the VGA mailing list, follow us on social media, and make it out to one of our job fairs,” Pizzutillo advised.

Businesses interested in tabling can reserve a 10-by-10-foot outdoor space. VGA members receive discounted rates and priority placement. Space is limited and assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants must bring their own tent, table and chairs. Food and beverages will be available for purchase from local vendors.
