Hemp-derived businesses move forward with registration in Minnesota

Businesses seeking to sell hemp-derived cannabis products in Minnesota can register for a license starting June 2.

ST PAUL, Minn. — The Minnesota Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) announced Tuesday that it would reopen registration for businesses to sell hemp-derived cannabis products on June 2.

This registration window will be open until Aug. 31. Businesses that get approved can sell hemp-derived THC beverages and similar products

For cannabis license applications, the OCM will do a lottery on June 5 for manufacturer, cultivator and mezzobusiness licenses. A separate lottery will take place June 5 for social equity applicants – people convicted of cannabis possession or sale, military veterans or people who worked for farm operations.

“As we prepare to issue cannabis business licenses and the upcoming lottery on June 5 for license types that are capped in statute, we are leaving no one behind,” OCM Interim Director Eric Taubel said in a statement Tuesday. “Opening a registration window for new hemp retailers this summer allows hemp businesses to continue driving revenue and economic opportunities to the entire state.”

In October, the OCM will accept business license applications for lower-potency hemp edible retailers, manufacturers and wholesalers. Businesses registered before April 14, 2025 can convert to this license type if desired.
