Ottawa police shut down another unlicensed cannabis dispensary on Dalhousie Street

The Ottawa Police Service says it has shut down another unlicensed cannabis dispensary, this time one operating illegally on Dalhousie Street.

On May 14, police officers searched a building in the 400 block of Dalhousie, where, according to a news release. they seized illegal products and drug-trafficking materials.

Police said in the release the investigation was still ongoing, but charges against both the property owner and the individual operating the dispensary were anticipated.

“During the search, officers seized large quantities of cannabis and related products, Canadian currency and items associated with drug trafficking,” the release read. “The premises were secured and shut down following the enforcement action.”

The release said the investigation began in February, when the OPS Drug Unit identified several cannabis retailers across Ottawa operating without authorization under Ontario’s cannabis licensing regulations. Some of these locations, including the Dalhousie Street dispensary, claimed to be functioning under asserted constitutional or Indigenous rights, it added.

In March, the release said, officers launched a targeted investigation into the Dalhousie location, issuing a Notice of Contravention to the property owner and ordering that the business cease operations.

However, the dispensary remained open, police said

Other unlicensed cannabis dispensaries have been shut down in the past few weeks on Rideau Street and Beechwood Avenue.

Anyone with information about unlicensed cannabis operations or other drug-related activity was asked to contact the Ottawa Police Service drug unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 5080.
