President Biden promised cannabis reform and legalization on the campaign trail in his bid to become President of the United States. However, to date, nada. Nothing. So the big State of the Union address in 2022 was hoped to be something marijuana reformers could look at with hope and optimism. This too fell short and many have become vocal!

Are the chemical compounds found in cannabis, including CBD, a potential treatment for reducing anxiety? Here’s what one clinical study is finding—and the story of one of its patients.
In “The Cannabis Question,” NOVA investigates the story of cannabis from the criminalization that has disproportionately harmed communities of color to the latest medical understanding of the plant. What risks does cannabis pose to the developing brain? How much do we know about its potential medical benefits? As cannabis becomes socially accepted, scientists are exploring its long-term health consequences.

Cannabis is rapidly becoming one of the most consumed drugs in Canada. Many report using the drug as a coping mechanism for stress and anxiety. How exactly do our stress responses change in the presence of cannabis? Does cannabis actually relieve stress? This video considers the stress relieving effects of cannabis as it interacts with our body’s stress reaction system: the hypothalamic pituitary adrenal axis (HPA-axis). Followed by the potential of cannabis for treating chronic and acute stress related disorders. As research continues on the full uses of cannabis, this video serves as an overview of the research published thus far. If you are using cannabis to cope with stress, please do so safely by monitoring your usage, and reaching out to a registered healthcare professional for more guidance on coping with stress.

How Does Storage Temperature Impact Seeds?
Study performed on Hemp (Cannabis sativa L.)
Seedling lengths (measured in cm) were compared across the following number of storage months…
Storage Months: 0, 3, 6, 9, 12, 18, 24, 36
In addition at each storage month the moisture content of the seeds were also evaluated.
Moisture Content of Seeds: 5%, 7%, 8%, 10%, 12%
This was performed across three different storage temperatures
Ambient: 10⁰C (50F) winter to 40⁰C (104F) summer
15⁰C (59F)
-20⁰C (-4F)
Ambient Storage Conditions: 10⁰C (winter) to 40⁰C (summer)
The continual temperature fluctuations reduced the storage time across all seed moisture contents.
Only the 5% moisture content seeds were able to have germination past 9 months of storage.
15⁰C and -20⁰C Storage Conditions
Under these temperatures, if the moisture content of the seeds was under 10% seedling growth could still occur up to 36 months of storage
However, if the moisture content is 7% or less than seeds had similar seedling lengths
Look For Stated Moisture Contents…
How Should Cannabis Seeds Be Stored?
Low moisture content seeds (under 10% with 5% suggested)
Cool (under 15⁰C (59F)) and dark conditions
If you are looking to keep the seeds long term than taking the extra step to store the seeds in an environment that is -20⁰C (-4F) is justified.

Dioecious or Feminized Seed?
Dioecious = have a 50/50 male/female ratio (theoretically)
Feminized = will produce a female plant
Dioecious Seed: Advantages
Have more genetic variability
Can produce pollen of chosen strain
Can offer more varieties to select from
Dioecious Seed: Disadvantages
Male plants will need to be removed (if not breeding)
Plants will have to be cared for that may not produce valuable yield
Will have to purchase more seeds than you need
Feminized Seed: Advantages
Vastly reduce the time spent culling male plants
Purchased seed number can more closely match total plant number
Cost? (Less expensive in some cases)
Feminized Seed: Disadvantages
Limited strain selection options
Can not use the seeds if you are a breeder
Potential negative impact on chemical profile
Cost? (More expensive in some cases)
